In case you're wondering, which you probably aren't, I do these posts after I've watched the show, but before I've had the time to go on the forums and discuss the show in further depth.
I get the feeling this one will be quite popular though.
- "Toxic" by Britney Spears? How much did that cost and why was it even needed. It's not like this was a sequel to "The End of the World".
- Pretty big coincidence that they just happened to wearing the exact suits everyone else was wearing. Perhaps the TARDIS knew?
- The TARDIS can do every language... except sign language. It's not always been the most consistent in this department.
- The aesthetics of this episode was great. I was very much reminded of Starfield in the overall layout of the place. The volume wall is a bit obvious in the initial landing, but it wasn't so much in the mine area.
- The psychic paper cuts through the bureaucracy greatly; the Doctor assumes command and stays in command.
- Also good to see Belinda getting to use her nursing skills, even if the equipment is far in her future.
- I think Rose Ayling-Ellis was badly served here. She spent most of the time standing around or sitting on a box.
- Can't say I expected to see a sequel to a 2008 episode here, but we got what we got and it worked very well.
- Murray Gold's score was particularly good this week. Will we get an album?
- The "VWORP!" subtitle is back! We've not seen it in this current era.
Conclusion
A highly enjoyable story and the best of this season so far. I am still think this might be the last one though.
9/10
