First among firsts? Margaret Thatcher 1925-2013

Whether you liked or loathed her, you cannot deny that Mrs Thatcher was the single most influential figure in post-war British politics - the United Kingdom transformed massively during her eleven years as Prime Minister and it was pretty much entirely due to her. Attlee was just PM of a government of many considerable talents, Churchill's domestic legacy is pretty limited and Wilson was as much reacting as driving.

You may mourn or cheer, but you will have been impacted by a colossus of world politics.
