James Bond: Diamonds Are Forever

A bit of a mixed one this. The pacing is off, the action scenes are below par (caused by the chunk of the budget that went to Connery’s fee) and the supporting cast, especially Jill St. John, aren’t all that good.

This said, there are some good elements here. Connery is playing this as a cross between self-parody and maturity (you can see his grey hairs) and there’s some good jokes. Charles Gray isn’t that bad as Blofeld and while they’re not the most PC of characters, Wint and Kidd are enjoyable – reminiscent of a Tarantino movie in fact.

Not brilliant, merely average. It’s better than OHMSS.

5/10
